Essential Oils That Protect You From The Swine Flu and other Viruses

Modern science has proven that many of the essential oils mentioned in the Bible contain immune-stimulating and antimicrobial compounds that can be beneficial to man. And, because of their complex chemistry in which God created them, this makes it very difficult for viruses and bacteria to mutate and acquire resistance to them. Many have been proven to be more effective than even antibiotics.

Interestingly, even Tamiflu – the now infamous prescribed medication for treating the H5N1 Bird Flu, is made from the extract of Chinese Star of Anise (eight horns). Shikimic acid is extracted from the pods (which wraps the seeds) of the star anise and is the starting material of Tamiflu (Roche Laboratories), an antiviral drug. This particular drug is being offered to patients for the Swine Flu, however, is not effective since this virus has mutated so quickly. In addition to being highly contagious, by the time scientists have formulated a vaccine to treat one strain of this virus; it could have morphed into a hybrid. Unfortunately, this major problem stems from drug companies producing antibiotics in such mass quantities (all bearing the same resemblance), that bacteria and viruses have built up a resistance and mutated into superbugs.

Fortunately, God has provided us with an answer essential oils. Essentials oils are extracted from the leaves, stems and seeds of aromatic plants, and are in fact, the essence or life-blood of the plant. Each essential oil is unique like a fine wine, and will vary depending on the climate, soil, sunlight and water in which they are grown. Think about this: one essential oil can have anywhere from 200 to 800 chemical constituents. If a virus or bacteria mutates or becomes resistant to one component, another constituent jumps in and stops the bug's progression. That old saying still holds true, "You can't fool mother nature!"

Essential oils have been effective in combating superbugs and stopping plagues for millenniums. In biblical times, the Lord told Moses to stop the plague that had broken out by taking fire and placing it upon the incense containing aromatics and to quickly run through the camp. During the 15th century, a band of thieves robbed jewels off of dead bodies that had died from the bubonic plague. Even while the disease was highly contagious none of the robbers grew sick or died, because they protected themselves by wearing essential oils.

In this complex high-tech pandemic, it would do us a world of good to step back and reread God's original prescription for mankind. Ezekiel 47:12, says God gave us "the leaf thereof for medicine" and in Revelation 22:2 it reads, "and the leaves of the trees were for the healing of the nations."

Here are some easy ways for you to use essential oils to protect yourself and your family from the Swine Flu (H1N1).

1. Everyone knows washing your hands is the first line of defense to staying healthy; however, antibacterial soaps which we all use will not be effective against viruses. By adding essential oils that are rich in monoterpenes with anti-viral constituents such as cypress or hyssop to your liquid non-scented soap, you can help stop the spread of this pandemic. Victorie, Inc., an online aromatherapy business based in Washington suggests adding 50 – 60 drops of essential oil (or a blend of oils) per 8 oz. of liquid soap. Be sure and check the essential oil's safety precautions for skin sensitivity before using.

2. Diffusing essential oils is another important step in reducing airborne pathogens and the spread of flu. Add 5-10 drops of an essential oil such as cinnamon or cassia to pan of water on the stovetop or add to a diffuser. If you have a cool mist vaporizer, you may want to add a few drops of essential oils. Diffuse twice a day for 15-20 minutes to purify the air.

3. If you have a pocket size diffuser for inhalation, add 1-2 drops of an essential oil of your favorite fragrance such as Rose of Sharon or Myrrh. For those who don't have a diffuser, you can add a couple of drops of essential oil on a tissue or a face mask to inhale. Fragrances you may want to include: Cassia, Cinnamon, Hyssop, Cypress, Frankincense, Myrrh, Tea Tree and Galbanum.

4. For disinfecting, purchase an empty 8 oz. spray bottle (plastic will work, but over time may erode due to the oil) and add 60 drops of an essential oil such as Lemon or Tea Tree and/or an essential oil blend. Fill the remainder of the bottle with distilled water. Again, check the safety rating for your oils in my book, "Heal with Oil."

5. If you have multiple empty spray bottles, you may want to create a "linen spray" by adding several drops of your favorite essential oil such as Cedarwood, Lavender, or Spikenard to distilled water and spritz your bed linens and pillow for a good night's sleep.

6. As a mouthwash, add a drop of cassia, clove, myrrh, and/or lemon to water and gargle. If you feel a chill or feverish, do this immediately.

7. To strengthen the immunity system, apply 1-3 drops of Frankincense essential oil to each foot at bedtime.
