The Act of Anointing - From Ancient Times & Today
The Act of Anointing Today
In ancient times, the practice of anointing was commonly reserved for kings and priests. Today, believers are discovering oil’s divine purpose in their life, as a kingdom of priests. 1 Peter 2:5 tells us, “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” As a kingdom of priests, Yeshua (Jesus, the anointed one) reigns as our King of Kings and believers can rightfully anoint themselves with oil as a physical manifestation of their being filled continuously with the Ruach Ha Kodesh (Holy Spirit), as oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 1:20-21 reminds us that we are anointed by God, “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God.” Believers were also directed to anoint with oil during a fast in Matthew 6:17 and use oil when praying for the sick in James 5:14.
Many believers today are discovering that anointing with beautifully fragrant oils can be spiritually enhancing. Abba Oil Ltd.=s publication, AAnointing Oil: Biblical Use for Consecration, Prayer, Healing & Worship,@ suggests using Biblical fragrant oils for the following:
* As an act of consecration and dedication, setting yourself apart for a special purpose in God's Kingdom. Anointing yourself every morning, while praying scriptures over your mind, heart, ears, eyes, hands and feet will change your life.
* As priests of the home, husbands are encouraged to anoint their wives and children for protection and peace, pronouncing a blessing upon them as did the Fathers of Old.
*As a preparation to bible study, devotional time, fasting, praise and worship.
*As a part of the foot washing ceremony, in remembrance of what Yeshua did for his disciples.
Anointing the Sick
In the case of illness or emotional trauma, anointing can bring healing, forgiveness, and peace with a profound sense of Yahweh=s presence in your life. Believers in the B’rit Hadashah (New Covenant or New Testament) were instructed to anoint the sick with oil. James 5:14-16 directs us, “Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
As believers we are to seek out “seasoned believers” or elders in your congregation or local assembly who will stand in agreement with you regarding your healing and anoint with oil in the name of the Yahweh. With this act, you are submitting yourself humbly to the Heavenly Father, with confession of any sin that could hinder your deliverance.
Author Dean M. Miller writes in his biblical teaching for the Church of the Brethren that anointing may be of real help to you for a variety of scenarios besides physical illness. Possible uses include:
Physical illness.
You may have received a disturbing diagnosis from your physician, or you have been battling a chronic or life-threatening illness.
Accident or sudden trauma.
You may be coping with the consequences of severe injuries or a loss of body function in a permanent handicap.
Impending surgery.
You may be facing the fear and anxiety of an operation with an uncertain prognosis.
Critical decisions.
You may be faced with choices affecting your job, your marriage, or your future that seem overwhelming.
Risk and vulnerability.
You may be undertaking a new assignment in strange territory, involving considerable risk to you and those whom you love.
Reconciliation.
You have just experienced a breakthrough in restoring a relationship that when broken, caused you much anguish and suffering.
Emotional pain.
You recall memories that arouse fear and guilt upon the loss of someone especially close to you.
Spiritual renewal.
You have experienced the closeness of God in a new way and found joy in renewing relationships with Christian brothers and sisters from whom you were estranged.

Celebrate the holiday with a special spa treat and show your patriotism!
What You Will Need:
3 cups of Epsom salts
3 Teaspoons of Sweet Almond Oil
9 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil
1 drop of red food coloring(more if you like)
1 drop of blue food coloring
Several Jars with Lids
Color Ribbon or Raffia

2. Add one teaspoon of almond oil into each of the three bowls.
3. Add a drop of red food coloring (your choice) into one bowl; Repeat in the second bowl using blue food coloring (leave one white or blue in one bowl).
4. Add three drops of peppermint essential oil into each of the three bowls. Mix well. Let sit for several hours to dry.
5. To create the “American flag” layer effect, use a clean jar and alternate the red and white salts filling the jar 2/3 way.
6. Add a layer of the blue bath salts then a layer of white bath salts.
7. After adding the white layer, take a toothpick and slide down the side of the jar pushing the white into the blue layer to create a “point or star” of white into the blue layer creating a star or wave look. Turn jar, and repeat using the toothpick to create stars.
8. Continue to alternate blue and white bath salt layers until the jar is filled.
9. Add ribbon, raffia, or other decoration to give as a gift!
Alternative Method: You may want to mix your food coloring, almond oil and essential oil together and blend well before adding to your bowl of salts.
If designing your flag with colored salts sounds too difficult, you may want to just alternate the red, blue, and white bath salts layers.

Essential Oils That Protect You From The Swine Flu and other Viruses
Modern science has proven that many of the essential oils mentioned in the Bible contain immune-stimulating and antimicrobial compounds that can be beneficial to man. And, because of their complex chemistry in which God created them, this makes it very difficult for viruses and bacteria to mutate and acquire resistance to them. Many have been proven to be more effective than even antibiotics.
Interestingly, even Tamiflu – the now infamous prescribed medication for treating the H5N1 Bird Flu, is made from the extract of Chinese Star of Anise (eight horns). Shikimic acid is extracted from the pods (which wraps the seeds) of the star anise and is the starting material of Tamiflu (Roche Laboratories), an antiviral drug. This particular drug is being offered to patients for the Swine Flu, however, is not effective since this virus has mutated so quickly. In addition to being highly contagious, by the time scientists have formulated a vaccine to treat one strain of this virus; it could have morphed into a hybrid. Unfortunately, this major problem stems from drug companies producing antibiotics in such mass quantities (all bearing the same resemblance), that bacteria and viruses have built up a resistance and mutated into superbugs.
Fortunately, God has provided us with an answer essential oils. Essentials oils are extracted from the leaves, stems and seeds of aromatic plants, and are in fact, the essence or life-blood of the plant. Each essential oil is unique like a fine wine, and will vary depending on the climate, soil, sunlight and water in which they are grown. Think about this: one essential oil can have anywhere from 200 to 800 chemical constituents. If a virus or bacteria mutates or becomes resistant to one component, another constituent jumps in and stops the bug's progression. That old saying still holds true, "You can't fool mother nature!"
Essential oils have been effective in combating superbugs and stopping plagues for millenniums. In biblical times, the Lord told Moses to stop the plague that had broken out by taking fire and placing it upon the incense containing aromatics and to quickly run through the camp. During the 15th century, a band of thieves robbed jewels off of dead bodies that had died from the bubonic plague. Even while the disease was highly contagious none of the robbers grew sick or died, because they protected themselves by wearing essential oils.
In this complex high-tech pandemic, it would do us a world of good to step back and reread God's original prescription for mankind. Ezekiel 47:12, says God gave us "the leaf thereof for medicine" and in Revelation 22:2 it reads, "and the leaves of the trees were for the healing of the nations."
Here are some easy ways for you to use essential oils to protect yourself and your family from the Swine Flu (H1N1).
1. Everyone knows washing your hands is the first line of defense to staying healthy; however, antibacterial soaps which we all use will not be effective against viruses. By adding essential oils that are rich in monoterpenes with anti-viral constituents such as cypress or hyssop to your liquid non-scented soap, you can help stop the spread of this pandemic. Victorie, Inc., an online aromatherapy business based in Washington suggests adding 50 – 60 drops of essential oil (or a blend of oils) per 8 oz. of liquid soap. Be sure and check the essential oil's safety precautions for skin sensitivity before using.
2. Diffusing essential oils is another important step in reducing airborne pathogens and the spread of flu. Add 5-10 drops of an essential oil such as cinnamon or cassia to pan of water on the stovetop or add to a diffuser. If you have a cool mist vaporizer, you may want to add a few drops of essential oils. Diffuse twice a day for 15-20 minutes to purify the air.
3. If you have a pocket size diffuser for inhalation, add 1-2 drops of an essential oil of your favorite fragrance such as Rose of Sharon or Myrrh. For those who don't have a diffuser, you can add a couple of drops of essential oil on a tissue or a face mask to inhale. Fragrances you may want to include: Cassia, Cinnamon, Hyssop, Cypress, Frankincense, Myrrh, Tea Tree and Galbanum.
4. For disinfecting, purchase an empty 8 oz. spray bottle (plastic will work, but over time may erode due to the oil) and add 60 drops of an essential oil such as Lemon or Tea Tree and/or an essential oil blend. Fill the remainder of the bottle with distilled water. Again, check the safety rating for your oils in my book, "Heal with Oil."
5. If you have multiple empty spray bottles, you may want to create a "linen spray" by adding several drops of your favorite essential oil such as Cedarwood, Lavender, or Spikenard to distilled water and spritz your bed linens and pillow for a good night's sleep.
6. As a mouthwash, add a drop of cassia, clove, myrrh, and/or lemon to water and gargle. If you feel a chill or feverish, do this immediately.
7. To strengthen the immunity system, apply 1-3 drops of Frankincense essential oil to each foot at bedtime.
Here is a list of essential oils that are known for their antiviral properties:
Basil
Cinnamon Bark
Clove
Eucalyptus
Galbanum
Hyssop
Jasmine
Marjoram
Tea Tree (Melaleuca)
Melissa
Mountain Savory

Essential Oil Recipes: Bridal Bath Salts
Bridal Bath Salts
This makes a wonderful gift or favors for a bridal shower! Or, just something to have on hand for soaking in the tub and in God's presence!
What You Will Need:
1 cup Bath Salt
1-3 drops of four different essential oils (Rosemary, Sage, Lavender, Rose or other favorites)
4 drops of food coloring (choose 3-4 different colors)
4 resealable containers
Jar with Lid
Measuring Cups
Spoon
What To Do:
1. Place ¼ cup of bath salts equally into four containers with sealable lids.
2. Add 1-3 drops of Rose essential oil (or another fragrance) to the first container then, add 4 drops of red food coloring. Replace lid and shake to mix well.
3. Next, add 1-3 drops of Sage essential oil to the second container then, add 4 drops of green and 2 drops of yellow food coloring. Replace lid and shake to mix well.
4. Add 1-3 drops of Rosemary essential oil to the third container then, add 4 drops of green food coloring. Replace lid and shake well to blend.
5. Finally, add 1-3 drops of Lavender essential oil to the fourth container of salts then, add 3 drops of red and 4 drops of blue food coloring and shake well.
6. On separate sheets of wax paper, spread out colored bath salts to dry for several hours. When completely dry, you are ready to layer each color in a pretty container. If you live in a humid area, you may want to speed up the drying time by spreading salts on a cookie sheet and placing in an oven on warm (or just a pilot light).
7. When completely dry, you are ready to layer each color in a pretty container. First, Rosemary, Lavender, Sage and Rose on top. If giving as a gift, add a pretty ribbon or raffia for decoration. You may also want to include a tag including each fragrant/color meaning: Rose (red) symbolizes covenant, (or if you chose to leave Rose (white) symbolizes purity, Sage (light green) represents good life and health, Lavender symbolizes devotion, and Rosemary represents lasting friendship and remembrance. Makes 8 ounces.
Suggestion: Try different fragrances and color combinations to reflect your faith or message.

Pandemic Level 6 - Now What? How to protect your family from Swine Flu
What many dreaded has finally happened. The WHO (World Health Organization) on Thursday declared we are now in a worldwide pandemic, with the swine flu alert raised to phase six, the highest level. They also stated that the H1N1 virus has spread to enough countries with it considered "unstoppable." Not that it is considered more deadly or dangerous, but certainly serious with almost 30,000 cases reported worldwide.
The United States isn't out of the woods yet, with reports that the number of deaths will be higher on Friday's update on the Center for Disease Control's website. The declaration of phase six certainly has been expected for weeks since many of the cases reported from the Southern Hemisphere where the flu season is under way, is showing itself something to be reckoned with. The WHO's urgency for raising the alert level to six is so that production of a vaccine can be available by September before the flu season starts in the North.
For those who do not want to wait for the vaccine or prefer not to take it, can protect their family with a natural alternative, such as essential oils. Essential oils are a powerful weapon against viral pathogens invading our bodies and are proven to take on all viral and bacterial germs.
Essential oils such as Camphor, Cinnamon Bark, Clove Bud, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Lemon and Rosemary oils are a must-have for any First Aid Kit because of the wide range of problems these oils can treat. For example, Camphor essential oil has for decades been known as an excellent weapon in fighting coughs, colds, flu and fever. It is also an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory.
Cinnamon is revered for its antiseptic properties and its pleasant spicy scent. It is best known for the treatment of stomach ailments (gas, diarrhea, upset). This oil has the ability to combat viral and infectious diseases. Research has been unable to find a virus, bacteria, or fungus that can live in the presence of Cinnamon.
Got a toothache? Clove Bud Essential Oil makes a great choice. It relieves dental pain, tooth aches, mouth ulcers, and sore gums. Clove helps to neutralize bad breath. It is frequently added to tooth pastes and mouth washes. Not only is it a good for dental pain Clove Bud can help relieve minor aches and pains. It is also antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral, and has stimulating properties. It has also been found to help with other health problems like indigestion, coughs, asthma, headache, stress and blood impurities.
Eucalyptus Essential Oil is native to Australia and is a welcomed addition to every medicine cabinet for its ability to fight colds, flu and fever. It is also effective for skin ailments like burns, blisters, wounds, insect bites, lice and skin infections.
Herbalist regards Lavender Essential Oil as the most useful and versatile essential oil for therapeutic purposes and its ability to accelerate healing of burns. It is also good as an analgesic, antiseptic, antidepressant, antispasmodic, antiviral, bactericide, decongestant, deodorant, and as a diuretic. This thin, strong scented oil has a calming effect on the body and helps to reduce stress, anxiety and promote sleep.
Lemon has been historically recognized as a cleanser. It is recognized as being antiseptic, and as having refreshing and cooling properties. Research has also shown lemon essential oil to enhance the ability to concentrate. Lemon also is highly prized for its high anti-bacterial properties. On skin and hair it can be used for its cleansing effect, as well as for treating cuts and boils.
Rosemary a popular herb for cooking has medicinal purposes in Therapeutic Essential Oil form. It has the ability to stimulate cell renewal, stimulate hair growth, boost mental activity, relieve respiratory problems and reduce pain.
