Spice Up Things With Cinnamon Essential Oil

When you think of Cinnamon, what do you think of? Hot rolls dripping with icing just out of the oven or a snicker doodle cookie or a hot apple cider with a stick of cinnamon come to mind. Whatever Cinnamon brings to mind, it always brings pleasant thoughts. There is more too it then making food taste good.

Did you know a good whiff of Cinnamon can prevent the H1N1 swine flu? In its pure essential oil form it has the power to combat sickness and disease.

This very popular essential oil is revered for its antiseptic properties and its pleasant spicy scent. It is best known for the treatment of stomach ailments (gas, diarrhea, upset). This oil has the ability to combat viral and infectious diseases. Research has been unable to find a virus, bacteria, or fungus that can live in the presence of Cinnamon.
In the book, Cinnamon and cassia, by P. N. Ravindran, K. Nirmal Babu, M. Shylaja they state:
The different investigations reveal that cinnamon shows both immune system potentiating and inhibiting effects. . . Kaishi-ni-eppi-ichi tu, , (TJS-664) a Chinese herbal preparation containing Cinnamon as its main constituent, has been shown to exhibit antiviral action against the influenza A2 virus.
Cinnamon’s botanical name is, Cinnamomum zeylanicum, and comes from trees native to China and South East Asia. The use of Cinnamon is recorded in Chinese journals as early as 2700 B.C. The oil is reddish brown and has a warm and spicy aroma. It is also used for lifting of spirits and reducing glucose. Cinnamon is used extensively in cooking and flavoring of beverages.
The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry has reported Cinnamon Oil is an excellent mosquito repellent, because of its high concentration of cinnamaldehyde, an active mosquito killing agent.
It also makes a great room freshener because of its strong aroma. A good rule of thumb is to diffuse the oil in a cool mist diffuser for about 20 minutes in the morning and in the evening.
Because of its high phenol content, it is best diluted (1 drop to 40 or 50 drops of a quality oil, such as extra-virgin olive oil) before it is applied to the skin. If the mixture is too hot, apply additional diluting oil.

Cinnamon blends well with Frankincense, Lavender and Onycha (Benzoin).

Other uses for Cinnamon are: Antimicrobial, anti-infectious, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal (candida), sexual stimulant, and increases blood flow, typhoid, circulation, infections, coughs, exhaustion, respiratory infections, digestion, rheumatism and warts.

With the onset of winter and cold and flu season, it’s a good idea to keep a supply of Cinnamon therapeutic grade essential close by to spice things up. Golly, Camphor Essential Oils What Can I Do With It?

In 1964 “Gomer Pyle, USMC,” was one of the most popular shows on television. Jim Neighbors played the dolt Gomer Pyle. In the episode entitled “Sergeant of the Week,” which premiered on 12/25/1964, Gomer gets a cold and uses Camphor to relieve the symptoms. I had a lady tell me when one of her children would catch cold, the first thing she would reach for was Camphor Oil.

Camphor therapeutic grade essential oil has a strong, penetrating, fragrant odor. It was used as a remedy against the plague in Persia (now Iran) and was also used in embalming. Camphor wood was excellent for shipbuilding by the Chinese because of the woods durable and aromatic properties.

The trees growing this pale yellow thin oil are indigenous to China and Japan and must be at least 50 years old to produce oil. The Cinnamomum camphora tree can grow up to 100 feet and live for a thousand years. It is a multi-branched evergreen, which has white flowers and produces a fruit of red berries like cinnamon.

Some of the therapeutic properties of Camphor oil include: anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, cardiac, carminative, diuretic, febrifuge, insecticide, laxative, rubefacient, stimulant and vulnerary. Camphor oil can be used in the treatment of nervous depression, acne, inflammation, arthritis, muscular aches and pains, sprains, rheumatism, bronchitis, coughs, colds, fever, flu and infectious diseases. It is a well-known preventive of moths and other insects.

Another good use for Camphor is its help relieving the pain of arthritis in a bath. Run a hot bath and add 3 drops of Camphor oil just before getting in to the bath tub and soak 15-20 minutes.

To make a Spirit of Camphor for bruises, sprains, muscle spasms, aches and pain because of its antispasmodic quality. Use 3 drops for 1 oz. Pure grain alcohol and store in a spray bottle and spray on affected area up to 6 times daily.

This Spirit of Camphor can also be used as a Tincture for minor skin wounds and tissue regeneration. Add Rose Water and Lavender to the Spirit of Camphor in a glass for storage. Shake well before using. To use apply 15-20 drops on a cotton ball, dabbing gently and use four times a day until would heals.

If Life Gives You Lemons Make Essential OIl

Lemon has been historically recognized as a cleanser. It is recognized as being antiseptic, and as having refreshing and cooling properties. Research has also shown lemon essential oil to enhance the ability to concentrate.

Lemon is highly prized for its high anti-bacterial properties. On skin and hair it can be used for its cleansing effect, as well as for treating cuts and boils.

This light yellow therapeutic grade essential oil is taken from the peel of the fruit from the Citrus limonum tree. Lemon Oil has thin consistency but has richer more concentrated aroma then the rind from which is taken.

The oil is extracted by cold pressing.

The small thorny evergreen tree Lemon comes from India, but is now found in Southern Europe, Florida and California. It was very popular in Europe during the middle ages, the Greeks and Romans were aware of the oil’s therapeutic properties. However it gained its notoriety when the British began using the fruit to keep their sailors from contracting scurvy.

The health benefits of lemon oil can be attributed to its stimulating, calming, carminative, anti-infection, astringent, detoxifying, antiseptic, disinfectant, sleep inducing, and antifungal properties. These benefits of lemon oil include its ability to treat stress disorders, fever, infections, asthma, over weight, insomnia, skin disorders, hair disorders, stomach problems and tiredness.

Essential Oils Put the Bite On Insects

How many times have you been out enjoying a warm summer evening only to have a squadron of mosquito’s ruin it with endless strafing runs? Hand to hand combat only gives temporary relief and barely slows them down. Maybe chemical warfare might do the trick, with the nasty smelling bug sprays. Or some biological warfare with cages full of lizards and frogs. I don’t think the ladies would appreciate that very much. There’s got to be a better way to win the Bug Wars.

With the increase of insects carrying viruses like West Nile Virus, it has become necessary to protect ourselves from bug bites. Chemicals like DEET have been added to insect repellants to ward off the pesky night rangers. But isn’t very healthy. In recent years many people have been searching for a natural remedies to fight off insects.

It has been known for centuries using cedar is an excellent way to protect valuables from bugs. Cedar wood in essential oil form can also help to ward off bugs and insects. Cedarwood essential oil was part of the Holy Anointing Oil mentioned in the Bible. It helped in keeping flies and insects out of the Temple in Jerusalem when sacrifices were being made.

Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils are even more powerful when blended with other oils. This is called a synergy blend. Cedarwood used for an insect repellant is best blended with cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint and rosemary. With this combination you have a potent weapon to beat the bugs.

Bug spray doesn’t have to be nasty; as a matter of fact it can be enjoyable. When making your blend, it is not always necessary to use all the oils. You can mix and match and find a suitable combination that will appeal to you.

After finding the right mixture, you’ll want to mix it in a carrier oil or dilute it with distilled water. This will preserve your skin from the stronger oils. Sesame, almond and coconut oil is a good choice, however you might want to make sure it is a massage oil because they are specifically for skin usage. Sesame oil also can act as a natural sunscreen.

Essential Oils are a wonderful tool God has given us to keep us healthy. However, these oils should be used with care and should not be taken internally unless under a licensed medical doctor with knowledge in aromatherapy. Pregnant women should not use these oils. Please check the safety ratings for each of the oils you are considering using. Always use 100% pure oils from reputable sources.

Rebecca Park Totilo has an excellent book on the subject entitled, “Heal With Oil, How to use the Biblical Essential Oils.” This book is an excellent book for those who are new to the use of essential oils. Busting The Swine Flu

Swine Flu has been elevated to a new level with the declaration of a National Emergency by President Obama. Vaccines are being rushed to healthcare professionals all over the country. These vaccines do not immunize they are only drugs that cause many side effects. According to Dr. Len Horowitz, “The H1N1 swine flu shot is more of a drug than a vaccine given the list of toxic chemical ingredients causing side effects including Guillain-Barre syndrome, a deadly paralyzing disorder widespread after the 1976 swine flu vaccination campaign."

Dr. Patricia Doyle in her April 26th blog from Global Research said, “I was one of the people duped into taking a Swine Flu shot and it made me so sick. I was sick in bed for three months after taking the vaccine.” Doctor Doyle continued, “An Influenza vaccine does not protect or prevent a person from contracting flu. It is purported to, maybe, prevent some complications of flu and maybe shorten duration. I am not even sure it does that. Personally, I feel the vaccine weakens our immune system and also sickens us due to contaminants in the vaccine.”

There is a rising cacophony of voices dissenting the merits of this vaccine. Knowing this what can be done to protect our families from the encroaching pandemic. Bust the Swine Flu with a combination of therapeutic grade essential oils which are an all natural remedy.

Flu Buster is a blend of Clove Bud, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus and Rosemary. This blend is commonly called Thieves® in the market place and can be a bit pricy. This mixture of Essential Oils has been proven to fight viruses and bacteria related sicknesses. Our mixture “Flu-buster” busts the germs and arrests there effects.

Each of these oils have properties that can keep viruses and bacteria from invading and overwhelming the immune system. Clinical studies from Weber State University have shown essentials oils to be 99.96% effective against airborne bacteria. It also proved that viruses, fungi and bacteria can not live in the presence of essential oils.

The history of this blend finds its roots in the Middle ages when Bubonic Plague ran rampant through Europe killing tens of thousands of people. A band of robbers ransacked the homes of dead or dying citizens. They covered themselves in essential oils and herbs. After being apprehended, their death sentences were commuted for the secret to their survival. The information found its way to the king of England and it is rumored the formula these band of crooks used is recorded in the Royal English Archive.

Essential oils can be used topically on the skin or inhaled. It is recommended a skin test be used before applying to the skin. Use just a bit on the skin to test for any type of reaction. Discontinue use if there is a reaction. Dilute the essential with a carrier oil and reapply testing for reaction. A solution can be mixed with either a carrier oil (ie. Olive Oil), distilled water or Pure Grain Alcohol at a recommended 10% dilution: 1 drop of essential per 10 drops of carrier oil.

Please do not use essential oils if you are pregnant. Consult a physician familiar with the use of essential oils before considering taking internally.

Acne and Essential Oils - Lavender and Tea Tree

Silent skin attackers creep in overnight unbeknownst to a sleeping princess. With what fright she awoke to see the horror of the success of the stealth attack. “Argh,” she screamed as she peered in the looking glass before her, “I can’t go to school with that on my face.” Overnight a band of rogue bacteria invaded the derma skin layer of our heroine. The loathsome marauders left their mark with a cruel calling card. Acne. The dread of every teenage drama queen.

This drama plays out quite frequently and sets many on a quest for the quick fix. In multiple trips to the drug store for some over the counter fix many a dollar is spent trying various products. In some case prescription drugs are prescribed by dermatologists to remedy the problem. When all these remedies don’t work, what is there to do?

One of the best natural acne fighters is Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) and it comes from Australia. This antibacterial oil also antifungal, so it is great for warding off those nasty warts too. It is fast acting and can help relieve the infected area while it is clearing up the bacteria. This oil is good for helping to heal wounds. It has also been found to effective against dandruff. If you have sensitive skin, it’s a good idea to use a carrier oil to dilute it. Grapeseed oil is excellent for this because it does not clog the pores.

Another great acne crime fighter is Lavender (Lavandula dentate) which comes from different parts of the world. It is very good at preventing acne, however when applied to an existing case it will help to clear it up. Lavender will take the redness out quickly. Like Tea Tree, this oil is best diluted.

Essential oils are wonderful aids to keeping us healthy, but should be used in moderation and used sparingly when undiluted. If pregnant, therapeutic grade essential oils should not be used. Please consult a physician familiar with the use of essential oils before using internally.

Spikenard Puts Insomnia to Bed

The other night I fell asleep like I normally do and about ten minutes later the phone rang and that's all it took to make me one of the 64 million other Americans staring at the ceiling. Frustrated with my tossing and turning, my wife suggested I go to her website http://www.healwithoil.com/ and find what essential oil is good for insomnia.

I found Spikenard essential oil helps promote sleep. So I broke out the Spikenard and tapped out a couple of drops into my hand and rubbed some on the bottom of my feet and before long I was cutting some serious Zzzz's. As I drifted off to sleep, the thought occurred to me, "How many others have this problem, but don't know about this wonderful natural sleep aid?"

I never had a problem getting to sleep before and never gave much thought to the problem of Insomnia. I knew to avoid caffeinated drinks late in the day, so I made it a rule not to drink any after 4:00. After doing a little research on the topic, I find out that's only part of the problem. Fear, stress and anxiety are big contributors to those not able to get a good nights sleep. With today's economy I'm sure the number is increasing.

Insomnia is defined by the experts as: the inability to get to or stay asleep and the result of the lack of quality or quantity of sleep. Which makes for a not-so-good next day. Most sleeplessness occurs in the early part of the night. Sleeplessness which occurs later in the night or just before normal time of waking up, could be caused by depression.

According to Lexicon-Biology.com; Melatonin is a molecule manufactured by a gland of the brain that functions as a hormone. It influences the sleep-wake cycle by acting according to the day-night alternation. Children rarely have problems with insomnia because their bodies produce a sufficient amount of this hormone to keep them asleep. Now us older folkour bodies do not produce the same levels of melatonin as when we were younger. It just happens that Spikenard essential helps with that problem.

Spikenard oil, is pale yellow in color with a medium viscosity and has an earthy warm aroma. It is an aromatic herb with rhizome root which is ground into a powder and then steam distilled to extract the precious oil. The technical name for Spikenard is Nardostachys jatamansi and is of the Valerianaceae botanical family. Originally from the Himalayan Mountains of India it expanded into China and Japan. Incense traders traversed thousands of miles through the holy land, Egypt and far into the Roman Empire. If you need more information on the history of Spikenard, visit our website http://www.healwithoil.com/.

One of the main reasons for Spikenard's popularity is its high concentration of Sesquiterpenes. Oils that are high in Sesquiterpenes work down at the sub-cellular level, which affects the membrane fluidity and allows oxygen transfer. It also can access the DNA in the cell which can erase information in the memory of the cell. This is an important step to setting the stage for reprogramming the cell's DNA to its original intent.

So when that insomnia keeps you up let Spikenard put it to bed. Becca has a lot more information about all the essential oils mentioned in the Scripture on her website: http://www.healwithoil.com/. To purchase Spikenard Essential Oil visit our website http://HealWithEssentialOil.com.

A Holy Priesthood

The instructions God gave to Moses regarding the fragrances to use for the holy anointing oil are found in Exodus 30:22-31: “Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses saying, Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels, and of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin: and thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil. And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the testimony, and the table and all his vessels, and the candlestick and his ves-sels, and the altar of incense, and the altar of burnt offering with all his vessels, and the laver and his foot. And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy. And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office. And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.” During the Mosaic period, special oils were designated by God as the holy anointing oil to sanctify an entire Hebraic genealogy known as the Cohanim priests. The ritual anointing of these priests distinguished them not only for Temple service but, according to Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan, registered in the DNA of their cells which has continued throughout all generations. In an article entitled “Lost Tribes of Israel,” Nova Online reported on the existence of a distinctive Y chromosome in the DNA of Aaron’s descendants: “Genetic studies among Cohanim from all over the world reveal the truth behind this oral tradition. About 50 percent of Cohanim in both Sephardic and Ashkenazic populations have an unusual set of genetic markers on their Y chromosome. What is equally striking is that this genetic signature of the Cohanim is rarely found outside the Jewish populations.” They also stated that rabbis at the Western Wall in Jerusalem took swab tests of Jewish males desiring to know if they are a part of the tribe of Levi in preparation for the third Temple.

The Act of Anointing - From Ancient Times & Today

The Act of Anointing Today

In ancient times, the practice of anointing was commonly reserved for kings and priests. Today, believers are discovering oil’s divine purpose in their life, as a kingdom of priests. 1 Peter 2:5 tells us, “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.” As a kingdom of priests, Yeshua (Jesus, the anointed one) reigns as our King of Kings and believers can rightfully anoint themselves with oil as a physical manifestation of their being filled continuously with the Ruach Ha Kodesh (Holy Spirit), as oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 1:20-21 reminds us that we are anointed by God, “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God.” Believers were also directed to anoint with oil during a fast in Matthew 6:17 and use oil when praying for the sick in James 5:14.

Many believers today are discovering that anointing with beautifully fragrant oils can be spiritually enhancing. Abba Oil Ltd.=s publication, AAnointing Oil: Biblical Use for Consecration, Prayer, Healing & Worship,@ suggests using Biblical fragrant oils for the following:

* As an act of consecration and dedication, setting yourself apart for a special purpose in God's Kingdom. Anointing yourself every morning, while praying scriptures over your mind, heart, ears, eyes, hands and feet will change your life.

* As priests of the home, husbands are encouraged to anoint their wives and children for protection and peace, pronouncing a blessing upon them as did the Fathers of Old.

*As a preparation to bible study, devotional time, fasting, praise and worship.

*As a part of the foot washing ceremony, in remembrance of what Yeshua did for his disciples.

Anointing the Sick

In the case of illness or emotional trauma, anointing can bring healing, forgiveness, and peace with a profound sense of Yahweh=s presence in your life. Believers in the B’rit Hadashah (New Covenant or New Testament) were instructed to anoint the sick with oil. James 5:14-16 directs us, “Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

As believers we are to seek out “seasoned believers” or elders in your congregation or local assembly who will stand in agreement with you regarding your healing and anoint with oil in the name of the Yahweh. With this act, you are submitting yourself humbly to the Heavenly Father, with confession of any sin that could hinder your deliverance.

Author Dean M. Miller writes in his biblical teaching for the Church of the Brethren that anointing may be of real help to you for a variety of scenarios besides physical illness. Possible uses include:

Physical illness.
You may have received a disturbing diagnosis from your physician, or you have been battling a chronic or life-threatening illness.

Accident or sudden trauma.
You may be coping with the consequences of severe injuries or a loss of body function in a permanent handicap.

Impending surgery.
You may be facing the fear and anxiety of an operation with an uncertain prognosis.

Critical decisions.
You may be faced with choices affecting your job, your marriage, or your future that seem overwhelming.

Risk and vulnerability.
You may be undertaking a new assignment in strange territory, involving considerable risk to you and those whom you love.

Reconciliation.
You have just experienced a breakthrough in restoring a relationship that when broken, caused you much anguish and suffering.

Emotional pain.
You recall memories that arouse fear and guilt upon the loss of someone especially close to you.

Spiritual renewal.
You have experienced the closeness of God in a new way and found joy in renewing relationships with Christian brothers and sisters from whom you were estranged.

4. Add three drops of peppermint essential oil into each of the three bowls. Mix well. Let sit for several hours to dry.
5. To create the “American flag” layer effect, use a clean jar and alternate the red and white salts filling the jar 2/3 way.
6. Add a layer of the blue bath salts then a layer of white bath salts.
7. After adding the white layer, take a toothpick and slide down the side of the jar pushing the white into the blue layer to create a “point or star” of white into the blue layer creating a star or wave look. Turn jar, and repeat using the toothpick to create stars.
8. Continue to alternate blue and white bath salt layers until the jar is filled.
9. Add ribbon, raffia, or other decoration to give as a gift!

3. Bake the cookies for 10 minutes, until they are lightly browned. Do not over bake. Allow the cookies to cool completely.

4. For use, drop 1 cookie into a warm bath and allow it to dissolve. Yield: 12 cookies, enough for 12 baths.

Essential Oils That Protect You From The Swine Flu and other Viruses

Modern science has proven that many of the essential oils mentioned in the Bible contain immune-stimulating and antimicrobial compounds that can be beneficial to man. And, because of their complex chemistry in which God created them, this makes it very difficult for viruses and bacteria to mutate and acquire resistance to them. Many have been proven to be more effective than even antibiotics.

Interestingly, even Tamiflu – the now infamous prescribed medication for treating the H5N1 Bird Flu, is made from the extract of Chinese Star of Anise (eight horns). Shikimic acid is extracted from the pods (which wraps the seeds) of the star anise and is the starting material of Tamiflu (Roche Laboratories), an antiviral drug. This particular drug is being offered to patients for the Swine Flu, however, is not effective since this virus has mutated so quickly. In addition to being highly contagious, by the time scientists have formulated a vaccine to treat one strain of this virus; it could have morphed into a hybrid. Unfortunately, this major problem stems from drug companies producing antibiotics in such mass quantities (all bearing the same resemblance), that bacteria and viruses have built up a resistance and mutated into superbugs.

Fortunately, God has provided us with an answer essential oils. Essentials oils are extracted from the leaves, stems and seeds of aromatic plants, and are in fact, the essence or life-blood of the plant. Each essential oil is unique like a fine wine, and will vary depending on the climate, soil, sunlight and water in which they are grown. Think about this: one essential oil can have anywhere from 200 to 800 chemical constituents. If a virus or bacteria mutates or becomes resistant to one component, another constituent jumps in and stops the bug's progression. That old saying still holds true, "You can't fool mother nature!"

Essential oils have been effective in combating superbugs and stopping plagues for millenniums. In biblical times, the Lord told Moses to stop the plague that had broken out by taking fire and placing it upon the incense containing aromatics and to quickly run through the camp. During the 15th century, a band of thieves robbed jewels off of dead bodies that had died from the bubonic plague. Even while the disease was highly contagious none of the robbers grew sick or died, because they protected themselves by wearing essential oils.

In this complex high-tech pandemic, it would do us a world of good to step back and reread God's original prescription for mankind. Ezekiel 47:12, says God gave us "the leaf thereof for medicine" and in Revelation 22:2 it reads, "and the leaves of the trees were for the healing of the nations."

Here are some easy ways for you to use essential oils to protect yourself and your family from the Swine Flu (H1N1).

1. Everyone knows washing your hands is the first line of defense to staying healthy; however, antibacterial soaps which we all use will not be effective against viruses. By adding essential oils that are rich in monoterpenes with anti-viral constituents such as cypress or hyssop to your liquid non-scented soap, you can help stop the spread of this pandemic. Victorie, Inc., an online aromatherapy business based in Washington suggests adding 50 – 60 drops of essential oil (or a blend of oils) per 8 oz. of liquid soap. Be sure and check the essential oil's safety precautions for skin sensitivity before using.

2. Diffusing essential oils is another important step in reducing airborne pathogens and the spread of flu. Add 5-10 drops of an essential oil such as cinnamon or cassia to pan of water on the stovetop or add to a diffuser. If you have a cool mist vaporizer, you may want to add a few drops of essential oils. Diffuse twice a day for 15-20 minutes to purify the air.

3. If you have a pocket size diffuser for inhalation, add 1-2 drops of an essential oil of your favorite fragrance such as Rose of Sharon or Myrrh. For those who don't have a diffuser, you can add a couple of drops of essential oil on a tissue or a face mask to inhale. Fragrances you may want to include: Cassia, Cinnamon, Hyssop, Cypress, Frankincense, Myrrh, Tea Tree and Galbanum.

4. For disinfecting, purchase an empty 8 oz. spray bottle (plastic will work, but over time may erode due to the oil) and add 60 drops of an essential oil such as Lemon or Tea Tree and/or an essential oil blend. Fill the remainder of the bottle with distilled water. Again, check the safety rating for your oils in my book, "Heal with Oil."

5. If you have multiple empty spray bottles, you may want to create a "linen spray" by adding several drops of your favorite essential oil such as Cedarwood, Lavender, or Spikenard to distilled water and spritz your bed linens and pillow for a good night's sleep.

6. As a mouthwash, add a drop of cassia, clove, myrrh, and/or lemon to water and gargle. If you feel a chill or feverish, do this immediately.

7. To strengthen the immunity system, apply 1-3 drops of Frankincense essential oil to each foot at bedtime.

Here is a list of essential oils that are known for their antiviral properties:
Basil
Cinnamon Bark
Clove
Eucalyptus
Galbanum
Hyssop
Jasmine
Marjoram
Tea Tree (Melaleuca)
Melissa
Mountain Savory
Myrrh
Oregano
Peppermint
Pine

Pandemic Level 6 - Now What? How to protect your family from Swine Flu

What many dreaded has finally happened. The WHO (World Health Organization) on Thursday declared we are now in a worldwide pandemic, with the swine flu alert raised to phase six, the highest level. They also stated that the H1N1 virus has spread to enough countries with it considered "unstoppable." Not that it is considered more deadly or dangerous, but certainly serious with almost 30,000 cases reported worldwide.

The United States isn't out of the woods yet, with reports that the number of deaths will be higher on Friday's update on the Center for Disease Control's website. The declaration of phase six certainly has been expected for weeks since many of the cases reported from the Southern Hemisphere where the flu season is under way, is showing itself something to be reckoned with. The WHO's urgency for raising the alert level to six is so that production of a vaccine can be available by September before the flu season starts in the North.

For those who do not want to wait for the vaccine or prefer not to take it, can protect their family with a natural alternative, such as essential oils. Essential oils are a powerful weapon against viral pathogens invading our bodies and are proven to take on all viral and bacterial germs.

Essential oils such as Camphor, Cinnamon Bark, Clove Bud, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Lemon and Rosemary oils are a must-have for any First Aid Kit because of the wide range of problems these oils can treat. For example, Camphor essential oil has for decades been known as an excellent weapon in fighting coughs, colds, flu and fever. It is also an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory.

Cinnamon is revered for its antiseptic properties and its pleasant spicy scent. It is best known for the treatment of stomach ailments (gas, diarrhea, upset). This oil has the ability to combat viral and infectious diseases. Research has been unable to find a virus, bacteria, or fungus that can live in the presence of Cinnamon.

Got a toothache? Clove Bud Essential Oil makes a great choice. It relieves dental pain, tooth aches, mouth ulcers, and sore gums. Clove helps to neutralize bad breath. It is frequently added to tooth pastes and mouth washes. Not only is it a good for dental pain Clove Bud can help relieve minor aches and pains. It is also antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral, and has stimulating properties. It has also been found to help with other health problems like indigestion, coughs, asthma, headache, stress and blood impurities.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil is native to Australia and is a welcomed addition to every medicine cabinet for its ability to fight colds, flu and fever. It is also effective for skin ailments like burns, blisters, wounds, insect bites, lice and skin infections.

Herbalist regards Lavender Essential Oil as the most useful and versatile essential oil for therapeutic purposes and its ability to accelerate healing of burns. It is also good as an analgesic, antiseptic, antidepressant, antispasmodic, antiviral, bactericide, decongestant, deodorant, and as a diuretic. This thin, strong scented oil has a calming effect on the body and helps to reduce stress, anxiety and promote sleep.

Lemon has been historically recognized as a cleanser. It is recognized as being antiseptic, and as having refreshing and cooling properties. Research has also shown lemon essential oil to enhance the ability to concentrate. Lemon also is highly prized for its high anti-bacterial properties. On skin and hair it can be used for its cleansing effect, as well as for treating cuts and boils.

Rosemary a popular herb for cooking has medicinal purposes in Therapeutic Essential Oil form. It has the ability to stimulate cell renewal, stimulate hair growth, boost mental activity, relieve respiratory problems and reduce pain.

Clove Bud, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus, Lemon and Rosemary can be blended to make the very popular Thieves formula to combat any type of viral or bacterial infection, protecting you and your family from the swine flu.

Sweet Dreams Are Made of This - Spikenard Essential Oil - Cure for Insomnia

Spikenard: Nature’s Cure for Insomnia

The other night I fell asleep after an exhausting day as usual, but then was shortly awoken when the phone rang after falling asleep and that was all it took to make me one of the 64 million other Americans who end up staring at the ceiling wide awake again. Frustrated with my tossing and turning, my wife suggested I break out the Spikenard oil. I tapped out a couple of drops into my hand and rubbed some on the bottom of my feet and before long I was cutting some serious Zzzz’s, my wife tells me. As I drifted off to sleep the thought occurred to me how many others have this problem but don’t know about this wonderful natural sleep aid.

I always thought drinking a cup of coffee before bed caused insomnia so I made it a rule never to drink caffeinated drinks after 4:00. Come to find out that’s only part of the problem. Fear, stress and anxiety are big contributors to those not able to get a good night sleep. With today's economy I’m sure the number is increasing.

Sleep is an integral part of keeping a competitive edge each day. It also necessary to maintaining a healthy body, since this is when our bodies repair muscles, release hormones, boost our immunity and reinvigorate our cells with energy. It also helps us concentrate better, effects our mood, our weight and how we age.

Insomnia is best defined by the inability to get to or stay asleep and could be the result of the lack of quality or quantity of sleep which makes for a not-so-good next day. Most sleeplessness occurs in the early part of the night. As we get older our bodies do not produce the same levels of melatonin as when we were younger.

Most people need at least seven to nine hours a night. Insomnia is when you have difficulty sleeping for at least three nights a week for a month. It is also reported, it is twice as many women suffer from insomnia then men do. Sleeplessness can drive people to start using over the counter and prescription drugs. With drugs come side effects like; dry mouth, morning drowsiness, dependence and even in some cases allergic reactions.

Many studies show that the release of Melatonin in the body will help induce deep, restful sleep. The fragrance of Spikenard has a calming effect on the limbic region of the brain releasing melatonin to get the rest you need.

Spikenard oil is pale yellow in color with a medium viscosity and has an earthy warm aroma. It is an aromatic herb of rhizome root which is ground into a powder and then steam distilled to extract the precious oil.

One of the main reason for Spikenard’s popularity is its high concentration of Sesquiterpenes. Oils are high in Sesquiterpenes which work down at the subcellular level.
This interaction affects the membrane fluidity and allows oxygen transfer. It also can access the DNA in the cell which can erase information in the memory of the cell. This is an important step to setting the stage for reprogramming the cell’s DNA to its original intent.

Spikenard is safe to use for adults and children. Like all essential oils you don’t need much to take advantage of the full effects so it lasts along time. Since it is all-natural it has no harmful side effects therefore rendering sleeplessness nights a thing of the past. How dreamy is that?
